this was my abuelito’s drogueria in honda, colombia, which was located in a deep river valley in the andes mountains. It was supported in the back by super tall stilts and overlooked the magdalena river. the drugstore was wiped out in 1985 by a volcano that erupted and ran down the river, taking out everything in its path. i remember standing in the drugstore when i was little and feeling the floor slant downward as i moved to the back. It gave me the sensation that it was going to collapse. i would inch my way slowly to the railing, scared to death that i would fall into the river which ran like rapids below. i liked the way it made my heart race.
these are my grandparents: Belén, to the left in the print dress with the collar, and my grandfather, Miguel, all in white, legs crossed holding the cigarette. My great grandmother, Ana Varon is the woman in black next to my grandmother and then my Aunt Elvia and her husband.
