Amy Cutler, Traction, Casein and Flashe on wood, 32 x 60 in. 2002.
There is a show at the American Folk Art Museum right now called DARGERism. its basically an exhibition that places the work of contemporary artists alongside Henry Darger’s paintings in an attempt to show how his work influenced their work. i think it’s kind of a lame-o idea. why don’t they just show Darger’s work? i’m not really interested in seeing other artists take on it! The connection to his work is just way too much of a stretch in some cases, or is just plain old heavy handed-almost insulting quite frankly. i really don’t like the sound of this show, but i do love this painting by Amy Cutler, so i may go just to see that.
